Blessing the weapons

Thank you for the article about the Russian tradition of blessing their military and weapons (World & Faith, July 22). It reminded me that the Russian government is not as free of religion as I am inclined to think. Lest we read the article with the smug belief that this is a characteristic of godless, communist enemies of God, it reminds me that the “Christian” church of the United States is no less idolatrous in our worship of national security and weapons of war. We are less overt and more careful to mask this.
